5 Stars The perfect herring
This is the perfect herring. It’s a metaphor. A metaphor of what? It’s a metaphor of the existential angst felt by modern man, that terrible fear without an object. That’s the perfect herring. Heidegger explained this. It’s the perfect herring. It’s a symbol. Sometimes you watch Prem Rawat on the public access channel. He is the little man who looks Chinese, although he is Indian. He talks in a loud voice of the wells of the desert. He screams: “Can I change the world? I don’t know. Can I give you peace? YES!” But there are no answers if you send for the DVD they market at the end of the show. That’s the perfect herring. Some people consider the lunch hour the high point of the day. They come to work, and the first thing they do is to look up the menu of their favourite lunch place. Today they have pasta. Tomorrow, they have onion rings. But still no herring. That’s angst, the anxiety of something indefinite, the fear without an object. It’s the perfect herring. Also, some people watch the crows outside their window. They are waiting for something. It’s a metaphor.

Yes, indeed, that’s the perfect herring.

I find it pretty funny that this book with its simple message that joy, love, and gratitude will create a better life for us than dwelling on the negative, is getting pages of lengthy negative rant reviews. Personally, it helped me through a dark day or two, so I recommend reading it. Take from it what you will.

1 Star Save Your Money !!
I generally like to keep my distance from overly hyped propaganda; however, there are indeed times when I break my resolve and ask myself, “What have you got to lose?” That’s the question I asked myself prior to purchasing ‘The Secret’. My answer really should have been, “Money and time.”

I truly believe that the graphic design and the paper stock used in the printing of this book was worth more than the content of the book itself. The mystique surrounding ‘The Secret’ made it seem as though the information that it contained was priceless and could not be found anywhere else.

Sadly, that just is NOT the case. The primary premise behind ‘The Secret’ and its “Law of Attraction” is that you get what you give. It really is as simple as that. If you put negativity into the world, you’re going to receive negativity in return. If you put positivity into the world, you’re going to receive positivity in return.

There is a secondary premise as well, and it is all about thinking in a positive manner. This involves changing your thoughts of “I cannot” to thoughts of “I can”. In fact, there is a quote within the pages of ‘The Secret’ that sums this premise up brilliantly in about 14 words:

“Whether you think that you can, or that you can’t, you are usually right.” (Henry Ford)

I was really hoping that this book would have something worthwhile between the front and back covers. Needless to say, that was so far beyond being the case [for me]. My money definitely could have been better spent on more beneficial reading materials.

Oh, and on a side note - someone mentioned in a previous review that there are no religious biases within this book. Erm … did I miss something? There are several references to ‘God’ throughout the chapters, which leads ME to believe that there are indeed SOME religious biases here.

5 Stars The Secret Rocks
This book is the greatest book that I have ever read! If you don’t understand what the Law of attraction is, then the Secret breaks it down without bias to religions or politics for one to understand! It is awesome and sparked an interest in the Law of attraction for me to dig in and find more information. Buy the Secret today.

1 Star If I could rate this less than one star I would
This is pathetic rubish. Positive thinking is great and there are a lot of wonderful books and tapes with affirmations. but this book basically says if you wish for something with every fiber of your body it will magically become yours. Simply not so. That is not the law of attraction. The law of attraction is if you are expecting good and are happy, you will bring about good in your life through WORKING toward your GOALS. If you want to buy a book about changing your life through positive thoughts keep looking. The only real secret to this book is that the author and her sister want to get rich.
